The Bentley Map V8i (SELECTseries 10) "Advanced Map Finishing" (A) capabilities add professional desktop publishing capabilities to MicroStation and provides a unique WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) on-screen display of graduated color fills, transparent fills, and element ordering and symbology. This software solution enables the simple generation of professional publication-quality presentation graphics inside the MicroStation environment. The key features of the Advanced Map Finishing capabilities are described as follows:

WYSIWYG Operation: With WYSIWYG operation, what you see on the screen is what you get in the print. Extra control is provided by resymbolization and ordering tables, whose effects are visible on the screen the moment they are applied—costly, time-consuming checkplots are a thing of the past. In addition, the map finishing tools eliminate traditional color limitations, provides masking functionality and generates high-resolution compressed PostScript or EPS output straight from MicroStation.

PDF Output: The ability to generate PDF files directly removes the need to convert PostScript to PDF using third party application. The Standard of PDF is far superior to the normal MicroStation plot drivers, for users who need and enhanced, precise and efficient output.

Desktop Publishing Tools: Easy-to-use menus provide MicroStation users with access to the desktop publishing tools. Tools typically found in cartographic and desktop publishing such as graduated linear and radiated fills are readily available to create design effects.

Sophisticated Halo Creation: Sophisticated full and half halo creation is available on either closed linear elements to represent water, earth, area boundaries, and linear elements.

Transparency Support: Transparency as a screening percentage from 0 to 100 percentage is ideal for highlighting areas on a raster image and adding color washes to monochromatic images.

Cartographic Tools: A full complement of handy cartographic tools, such as line cap options, are provided along with a wealth of text presentation options, including shadowing, variable fill, transparency, and the use of PostScript fonts. The map finishing tools makes it simple to place text along curves and around corners. These tools also allow EPS files to be placed directly into MicroStation to bring accent graphics and other designs in that may have been created in another desktop publishing tool.

Best Presentation Output: To ensure the best presentation output, users have complete control over element order and symbology presentation both on the screen in WYSIWYG mode and in printing or plotting. Therefore it is simple to produce a composite PostScript or color separation files for print production. For plot production, the map finishing tools offer reliable and powerful print control.

Intuitive User Interface: Print controls provide an intuitive interface making it straightforward to create high quality industry standard PostScript output. From one screen easily define print setup, manage plot scale, implement image compression techniques, define plot rotation or color separation options.
